Faculty Mentor
Jaylia Prussing University of Mary My faculty mentor at the University of Mary is Jaylia Prussing. I met with her frequently in her office during the school year to discuss pursuing my masters in Library Media Science as well as my interim substitute teaching license. During the spring semester, Mrs. Prussing passed a new major, Exceptional Learners, and I had the privilege of voting in favor of it at University Senate. Most significantly, Mrs. Prussing organized a meeting with Misti Werle , the Library Media Systems Innovator for Bismarck Public Schools. I gained so much from meeting with them, and look forward to staying in contact in the future. |
Professional Mentor
Jan Schmidt Liberty Elementary School My professional mentor is Jan Schmidt, the Library Media Specialist at Liberty Elementary in Bismarck, ND. Mrs. Schmidt and I instantly connected over our love of technology, books, and Harry Potter. The first meeting, I sat down with her getting to know her whole position. Mrs. Schmidt arranges her library by genres and categories, rather than the traditional Dewey Decimal System so students and teachers can find books easily. After that, I spent every moment with her on my feet shadowing her during her busy schedule teaching twenty-six different classes per week. I was able to observe and help Mrs. Schmidt integrate technology in the classroom simply with Google Docs, Google Earth, and Legos, and more complexly with motors and Ozobots, all integrating with the targeted curriculum. I was amazed at how Mrs. Schmidt goes above and beyond her job by helping set up for her annual Bingo for Books and helping with the bi-annual book fair. I could not have been assigned a better professional mentor and role model for library media science in the area, and I am grateful for my rewarding experience. |
